Frequently Asked Questions

What information of yours does Fortis by Sentinel Online collect?

Our goal is to provide information, services, and product offerings that are most relevant to you in the most convenient way. Information collected online is usually defined as being either anonymous or personally identifiable.

Anonymous information refers to data that cannot be tied back to a specific individual. Fortis by Sentinel does not collect, use, store, or distribute anonymous information.

Personally identifiable information (PII) refers to data that tells us specifically who you are (e.g., your name and company address). You are only required to provide such information if you want to request information or services provided through our website(s). Sentinel collects PII in the following ways from different parts of its website(s):

  • Fortis by Sentinel “Learn More” or "Request A Quote": You are sharing PII, including your name, company name and company contact information, with us when you request information regarding our services and/or when you register for a Sentinel Digital Experience Platform (SDEP). A SDEP describes any online system related to customer services, solutions, or support provided through Sentinel and/or Fortis by Sentinel.
  • Online Purchases: We also ask for personal information when you make a purchase through the Online Store.

What are "cookies" and how does Fortis by Sentinel use them?

A cookie is a small text file containing a unique identification number that is transferred from a website to the hard drive of your computer. A cookie will not provide PII about you, such as your name and address. The use of cookies is now an industry standard, and cookies are currently used on most major websites. Most web browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. If you prefer, you can reset your browser to notify you when you have received a cookie. You can also set your browser to refuse to accept cookies altogether. While Fortis by Sentinel does not require you to use cookies, keep in mind that certain services may not function properly if you set your browser to refuse all cookies.

To help serve you better, Fortis by Sentinel generally uses only current session cookies when you login to one of our SDEP systems. These session cookies are deleted when you end your session. These cookies are not stored or distributed to third parties.

What organization collects the information and who has access to it?

The outside vendor only stores your contact and a portion of your credit card information to fill your purchase request. If you do not want to share your information with that company, you can choose not to use that service.

Anonymous information. We provide no anonymous or PII to other third parties. Be aware that third-party content providers have links on our site(s) that take you to other websites. Fortis by Sentinel expects that all third parties involved adhere to our policies regarding the privacy of our users. However, Fortis by Sentinel's Online Privacy Policy does not cover third-party data collection practices, and Fortis by Sentinel Online does not assume any responsibility for any actions of third parties.

  • Access: you have the right to request information about how we process your PII and to obtain a copy of that PII
  • Rectification: you have the right to request the rectification of inaccurate PII about you and for any incomplete PII about you to be completed
  • Objection: you have the right to object to the processing of your PII, which is based on our legitimate interests (as described above)

In addition to the above, you have the right to file a complaint with a supervisory authority if you consider that our processing of your PII infringes applicable data protection law.

Legal Basis for Processing

Our legal basis under EU data protection law for collecting and using your PII as described in this Privacy Statement will depend on the PII concerned and the specific context in which we collect it. In general, we collect and process your PII on one or more of the following bases:

Your consent, where we have obtained your consent to process your personal data for certain activities. You are free to withdraw your consent at any time by contacting Infosenter@sentinel.com. If you withdraw your consent, it will not affect the lawfulness of any processing based on your consent before you withdrew it. Where applicable, we may ask for your consent to processing at the point where you provide your PII.

To comply with a contractual obligation (for example, using your shipment details to make delivery where you have bought a product from us or using your personal details where you have asked us to do something before making a purchase, such as providing you with a quote).

For compliance with Sentinel’s legal obligations where other laws require the processing of your PII (for example, health and safety, taxation and anti-money laundering laws) or where we need your PII to protect your vital interests or those of another person.

To serve Sentinel’s (and its business partners’) legitimate interests which include the provision of this website and/or relevant products and services, and/or the carrying out of marketing and profiling activities, provided always that our legitimate interests are not outweighed by any prejudice or harm your rights and freedoms.

If you have any questions or need more information concerning the legal basis on which we collect your PII, please contact us at Infosenter@sentinel.com
